Blurb; Adam Kay was a junior doctor from 2004 until 2010, before a devastating experience on a ward caused him to reconsider his future. He kept a diary throughout his training, and This Is Going to Hurt intersperses tales from the front line of the NHS with reflections on the current crisis. The result is a first-hand account of life as a junior doctor in all its joy, pain, sacrifice and maddening bureaucracy, and a love letter to those who might at any moment be holding our lives in their hands.
My Review; WOW! I got this book and dropped everything to read it. This book will be going straight into my top 20 of 2018. It’s bloody brilliant. A must buy. A must read. A bestseller. Now I don’t usually read much non-fiction but after all the hype around this story I am so glad I decided to read it and also the cover appealed to me.
This book is a real eye opener to all readers about Dr’s and the NHS as a whole. It gave me a whole new found of respect for doctors and NHS workers. As a reader who has noone working for the NHS or knows anything about it at all (except having two births) I was shocked and grateful for what Dr’s really do have to go through each and every day.
Also throughout this book I learnt so much new information that I would never have known if I didn’t pick up this book. It’s good to gain some knowledge right? Parts had me laughing out loud, parts had me gagging and parts had me nearly in tears! You will feel a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this book but nevertheless you will devour it.
The book is told through diary extracts making it an easy to read book and fast paced! If I didn’t have kids I would have devoured this in one sitting. I am very impressed and loved this book! I think the population as a whole needs more awareness about the NHS and what happens technicly behind closed doors and this is exactly what Adam has done.
A well deserved five stars. Highly recommend if you haven’t beat me to it already! Brilliant. Outstanding. Loved it. Thanks Adam Kay for a great read.
