Blurb; FBI Special Agent Kimberly Quincy and Sergeant Detective DD Warren have built a task force to follow the digital bread crumbs left behind by deceased serial kidnapper Jacob Ness. And when a disturbing piece of evidence comes to light, they decide to bring in Flora Dane who has personal experience of being imprisoned by Ness.
Their investigations take them to a small town deep in the hills of Georgia where something seems to be deeply wrong.
What at first seems like a Gothic eeriness soon hardens into something much more sinister as they discover that for all the evil Jacob committed while alive, his worst secret is still to be revealed.
Quincy and DD must summon their considerable skills and experience to crack the most disturbing case of their careers – and Flora must face her own past directly in the hope of saving others.
My Review; This was technically my first read of 2020 and what a way to start the year. Very impressed. Brilliant. I don’t think I’ve read anything by this author before. So a great find of a new author too. Anyway…
When You See Me is non stop, never a dull moment. There is always something going on. Action packed! It is chilling, tense, creepy, thrilling, edge of your seat, page turner of a reader. I was flicking through the pages for fun. It all heats up towards the end which is shocking, jaw dropping and I just couldn’t believe the outcome of the whole case. How a case from fifteen years ago turns into an active present case too where things turn dark and deadly.
This is one great team working together all with their individual specialities and talents. There was two characters that stood out to me. Flora – The victim. She turned out to be a massive help to the case. Then… Bonita – A girl. Another victim. Voiceless. Cannot speak or communicate well. But she has eyes and ears that see and hear all. Can she find a way to communicate to help solve the case?
The story is told through each of the characters and my favourite parts had to be towards the end and all Bonitas chapters however, she didn’t have a name until towards end. Her chapters were heartbreaking but turns out underneath she is a strong, determined and angry little girl. Loved her.
A brilliant story. Absolutely loved it. Highly recommend. One I won’t be able to forget for a long time. A well deserved four stars from me.
