Circe – Madeline Miller ★★★★★

Blurb; In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.

But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

My Review; I should have read this as soon as I got it. However, I finally read it and oh my gosh. It was brilliant. I loved it. I’m wishing and hoping for more. I’ve already bought her previous book Song of Achilles which I am waiting for. This is so different from what I have been reading recently and I just enjoyed every minute of it. Also the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

I will admit I had to concentrate a lot while reading this especially at the beginning figuring out who is who etc. I would say it wasnt an easy for me but worth it all. Every page. The ending did get me a little mad though. I WANT MORE.

I just fell in love with Circe. All of her. Even the parts she did go about the wrong way. That was just her. I don’t even know what to say or what’s considered a spoiler here so I will keep it brief and just tell you to read it. I was transferred into a whole other world reading this. An island. The sea. Circe. Her animals. Gods and Goddesses. Evil and good. Perfection. But it’s not all bright and rosey… Evil and revenge lurk within this story too. A truelly magical read.

A well deserved five stars from me. Highly recommend to you all if you haven’t read it yet as I know I’m late to the party on this one. Another book that will be going into my top 20 reads of the year. Still thinking about it now.
