Heartstopper: Volume 2 – Alice Oseman ★★★★

Blurb; Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. An LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between: this is the second volume of HEARTSTOPPER, for fans of The Art of Being Normal, Holly Bourne and Love, Simon.

Nick and Charlie are best friends. Nick knows Charlie’s gay, and Charlie is sure that Nick isn’t.

But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is discovering all kinds of things about his friends, his family … and himself.

Heartstopper is about friendship, loyalty and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie’s lives that together make up something larger, which speaks to all of us.

This is the second volume of Heartstopper, with more to come. Volume two collects all of chapter three from the ongoing web series.

My Review; I dived straight into this one after finishing volume one due to the cliffhanger ending of the first. We begin this one with apologies and new starts. This book focuses more on the growing friendship/relationship between Charlie and Nick. These both made me smile reading them full of love, hope and friendships. Nick is still figuring out what is going on with himself and is scared of the outcome and ‘coming out’. A brilliant ending to this one and I cannot wait to see where volume three takes us with these two. I love both their characters.

Beautiful illustrations. Beautiful story. Another easy, light read. Devoured this on in half an hour too. Perfect. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend. Now I’m off to read volume three.
