Blurb; They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.
Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.
But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way—even if it kills her.
Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.
My Review; Huge John Marrs fan and have been making my way through his books. Picked this up with every intention of splitting it over the month for a group read and discussion… That did not happen. I devoured 250 pages in one night then finished it the next morning. Oops. Hooked. Page turner.
I don’t know what I expected going into this but what I read shocked me, was unexpected and dark. I bloody loved it. Every page. The story is told through mother Maggie and daughter Nina and they are both as bad as each other. I kept swaying from one to the other who I hated more but then it levelled out and I didn’t like either of them. Brilliant story though. Highly recommend.
This has also already gone into my top reads of year. Another one that’s hard to forget. Disturbing. Dark. Deadly. Psychos. A well deserved five stars from me. Another must read.
