Children’s book TAKEOVER – 5 different reviews. ★★★★

Horror Heights: The Slime – Bec Hill ★★★★

Blurb; Welcome to Horror Heights: can the children who live here conceal the strange goings on behind closed doors? GOOSEBUMPS for a new generation, by award-winning comedian and CITV presenter, Bec Hill.

Connie hasn’t found her talent yet, but at least she has her slime collection – if it’s gooey, she’s got it! She hopes that by adding a few extra ingredients to a simple recipe she will uncover a talent for slime-making, but alas, all she uncovers is a hot, stinky mess which ends up in the bin. It’s shaping up to be another uneventful weekend … until her failed slime experiment wakes her up the next morning. It’s alive! And can talk! And is named… Big.

Big adores Connie and wants to protect her from everything at all times, which is very sweet. At first. But when it gets bigger, grows teeth and threatens to eat her friends and father, can Connie uncover her TRUE talents in order to protect everything from THE SLIME?

My Review; Perfect for any slime fans. Easy, fast paced read at just under 150 pages. Connie is the queen of slime and after making her own which comes to life and starts to turn to evil and ruin her friendships she doesn’t know what to do or how to stop this slime monster she created named Big. Full of imagination. Different. Who will win the slime or Connie? A well deserved four stars from me.

Isadora Moon Gets the Magic Pox – Harriet Muncaster ★★★★

Blurb; When Isadora’s teacher announces the class are having a maths test on Monday, Isadora gets a nervous feeling in her tummy. She really doesn’t like tests . . . or maths!

Maybe, Isadora could pretend to be ill so she can stay at home instead? Isadora calls her naughty cousin Mirabelle for help and she gives her a spell that will help Isadora get out of the test.

To Isadora’s delight, it works! But between a potion mishap and magic pox fluffballs bouncing around all over the place, Isadora starts feeling a bit guilty. Luckily, her mum is on hand to help set things right and together they come up with a new, magical way to say goodbye to the magic pox and even make revising for the maths test fun!

My Review; I have reviewed a few of these in the past and although this is book fifteen in the series all will read well as standalones. All easy, light and fast paced reads with beautiful illustrations throughout perfect any young little girl to read and enjoy. Isadora has a maths test coming up, the worst kind… Times tables. She asks for help through her cousin in how to skip the test and the answer is obvious… Magic pox ofcourse, but it soon all goes wrong and the lie soon becomes apparant when pox are all over the house and garden. Can Isadora fix her mistake? Overcome this maths test? Wrong her rights? A well deserved four stars from me.

Kitty and the Woodland Wildcat – Paula Harrison ★★★★

Blurb; Kitty is a superhero-in-training with cat-like superpowers. She dreams of being just like her superhero mum one day, but she’s still got a lot to learn. Join her for a series of enchanting adventures by the light of the moon with her faithful cat crew by her side.

Kitty is on a camping holiday with her friend Ozzy. Just like Kitty, Ozzy is a superhero-in-training with owl-like superpowers. During their stay in Whitefern Wood, they meet a wary wildcat, desperately looking for her lost kittens. The trouble is, she doesn’t trust humans at all. Kitty must earn her trust and then prove her worth as a superhero in training, by finding the kittens and saving the day.

Kitty and the Woodland Wildcat is the ninth book in the Kitty series, featuring a charming main character, cat-packed exploits, and striking two-colour art on every page.

My Review; Again this is from a series I have previously reviewed before and this is book nine in the series but each reads fine as a standalone. This book is short, easy reading and beautifully illustrated throughout with some very bright colours included. Kitty is the main character in the whole series and at night is a super hero. In this adventure she brings along a few of her friends and always find something to do or someone to save. This time it’s a woodland wild cat who has lost her kittens and a storm is approaching… Will Kitty and her friends be able to find the Kittens before it’s too late? A well deserved four stars from me. Perfect for any little readers. An adventure.

Leonora Bolt: Secret Inventor – Lucy Brandt ★★★★

Blurb; WARNING: EPIC INVENTIONS AND SECRET SOCIETIES AHEAD . . .

With the help of an otter with a special skilll, a questionable cook and a singing sea captain, can Leonora dream up an invention that will defeat her evil uncle once and for all?

My Review; This one is for the older readers and just under 200 pages long. A tale of adventure, uncovered truths and pure genius inventions. Bound to set your imagination on fire with all these wierd and wacky food inventions, machines and gadgets. Leonora has only ever known the island she has lived on with her uncle and live in nanny, she was told her parents were lost at sea, presumed dead. However, when a boy finds himself stranded on her island after drifting away from the mainland Leonora wants answer, everything she has ever known was a lie and her uncle is an evil villian who has been lying to her and using her inventions as his own. Can Leonora find out the truth about her parents? Can she defeat her evil uncle? She is one strong, determined little girl. An adventure. A mystery. A well deserved four stars from me.

Marv and the Dino Attack – Alex Falase-Koya ★★★★

Blurb: It’s an exciting day for Marvin and his classmates because they are visiting the Natural History Museum. Marvin and Joe can’t wait to see all those dinosaur skeletons up close, but they get more than they bargained for when supervillain Leo turns up and brings the Dino skeletons to life!
With the help of his loyal sidekick, a super-intelligent robot called Pixel, it’s time for Marvin to become superhero Marv.
Marv must use all of his newfound superhero skills if he wants to stop Leo and save his classmates from the gang of marauding dino skeletons running riot!

My Review; This is one for the boys. Dinosaurs. Super hero. Villian. Wow. Marv is off on a school trip to the museum but a villian soon emerges and would you believe it? He makes all the dinosaurs come alive for real. Who can save them? Marv ofcourse turns super hero trying to catch the villian and stop the dinosaurs. Can he do it without his classmates suspecting it is him? Can he save the day? Easy, fast and short read with beautiful illustrations throughout. A book for all the little boys out there and one which represents a different minority of readers. I enjoyed this one. A well deserved four stars from me. Marv to the rescue.
