Lion – Saroo Brierley ✶✶✶✶✶

Blurb:
At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia.

Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home, and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family.

My Review:
This is a brilliant five star read and I will highly recommend it to you ALL! I actually fell in love with this story and was beside Saroo the whole time supporting him. What a story to tell the world! How amazing is it to survive at just five years old on your own. This is a real eye opener that other parts of the world are nothing like ours and we shouldn’t take advantage of what we have. I think with this story being a real life, non fiction story made it that little more intense and believable. It is a relatively short short at (288 pages), which I managed to complete within 24 hours. I didn’t want to put it down. This story will stick with me for a long time and I cannot wait to see the film adaption. Lion is brilliantly written, easy to read and fast paced. I loved how it included photos of them all, making it that little bit more personal. A lovely heart warming story. Well deserved five stars. Go check it out below. You will not be disappointed I promise you. LOVED IT!

A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness. ✶✶✶✶✶

Blurb:
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

My Review:
WOW! WOW! WOW! Where to start? I fell in love with this story. A MUST READ! I decided to read this story as I saw there was a film of this story and many readers have been reading it! It took me a good ten minutes after finishing this book to stop crying and calm down, so tissues will be needed! Not many books make me cry but this one hit me right in the feelings department. I can already say this will be in my top 20 books of 2017. I can happily go and watch the film now. A Monster Calls is a beautiful, well written and easy to read story for all. You may even learn something yourself from this story I know I did. But WOW… What a powerful and emotional story. I read this within a day easily for it isn’t a long read but one I would urge you all to read or bump up to the top of your reading piles. Loved every minute of it.

Just a little fact about this book: The award winning author Siobhan Dowd died of cancer before she could write this book but the lovely Patrick Ness took her idea and created this heartbreaking story for her behalf. AWWH. 😦

Blurb:
When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…

My Review:
So I FINALLY got this book for Christmas and WOW! I loved it. I can now go and watch the film (book before film BBF). I found it easy to read (finished it in a day) and didn’t want it to end! Brilliant. Never been let down by anything written by JK Rowling. A must read for all Harry Potter fans. It will be over before you know it! The perfect Christmas read for me this year. Savour it. Enjoy, I did.
