Shadows of Winterspell – Amy Wilson ★★★★

Blurb; Stella has been living behind the magic of the forest for most of her life. Lonely, she enrolls at the local school, and as she begins to make friends, she discovers that she is even more different than she thought. But as autumn turns to magical winter, Stella realizes that uncovering her own family secret is the only way to release the forest from the grip of a dark and old magic.

My Review; I was drawn to this by the beautiful cover and ended up buying them all in the end. Another YA story full of magic, fairies, fai, ghosts and imps. An adventure. I absolutely loved it. Another easy read that could easily be read in one setting, a lovely ending.

Stella lives with her ghost nan, an imp and her cat but she wants a ‘normal’ life. She gets herself enrolled in the local school, makes friends and is enjoying life. Until she realises she is part of an old story/myth. One that still needs sorting/fixing and that is exactly what she is going to do. She is one brave, strong and adventurous girl but it won’t be as easy as she thinks.

A brilliant story. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend. I cant wait to read all this authors other stories. I love finding new authors.

Throne of Glass – Sarah. J Maas. ★★★★

Blurb; After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My Review; I have been meaning to read this series since forever and I finally read the first book and loved it! I already cannot wait to continue with this series and see what lies ahead. I’ve always been interested in Assassins so this was perfect! There is a lot going on within this book and I want to say a little bit of a romantic story too in parts.

Celaena is one strong, determined and a clever young woman. She has to win her freedom back through a tournament against others and she will not let anyone stop her from winning. She wants that freedom. Parts towards the end are tense and edgy making me want to scream at Celaena especially in the final duel against a cheat and bully named Cain.

The romantic parts are cute showing she may be an assassin but she still has a heart and shes still a human. We learn about her past which is heartbreaking. Noone knows Celaena is an assassin she is under cover but soon people discover who she really is and she discovers friendships that she never thought she would have.

I just loved it all. It was nice to be in her world and not mine. It was brilliant. Highly recommend. A well deserved four stars from me. Made me forget about everything going on and just be there with Celaena. I can tell im in for a treat with this series.

*BLOG TOUR* Mageborn – Jessica Thorne ★★★★

Blurb; A dark and addictive fantasy read for fans of Graceling and Sarah J. Maas. The life of an orphan soldier becomes entwined with that of the mysterious heir to the throne, whose very presence draws out the secret magic living inside her: a magic that breaks every law she is duty-bound to uphold…

The room is small and dark. Row upon row of jars line the shelves, each one sealed with blood-red wax. The seal’s mark is a twisted circle of briar with gleaming, gold-tipped thorns. And in each jar a flicker of forbidden magic dances… beautiful, but deadly.

Sold to the Crown in the aftermath of the Last Great War, Grace Marchant has never known her parents. Now, she trains as an elite soldier tracking down mageborn – those born with an ancient and long-outlawed magic – and destroying them if they don’t surrender their power to the Crown.

The mageborn who submit are collared, then handed over to the King’s cousin and heir: the elusive Bastien Larelwynn, Lord of Thorns, locked away in his shadowy workshop deep inside the castle. What becomes of them is hard to say – the Lord of Thorns keeps his secrets close.

Grace has always fought the voice inside her that questions whether the law is truly just – but when her closest friend is next on Bastien’s list, Grace’s loyalties are tested to the limit. Confronting Bastien – searching his strangely compelling obsidian-black eyes for answers – Grace is shocked to feel herself begin to change, to show the first signs of the wild magic she so fears.

Only the Lord of Thorns has the power to save her and the rest of the mageborn – if he doesn’t destroy them all first…

My Review; This is the first book of a brand new upcoming series The Hollow King which has me very excited! I loved it. I also think the cover is stunning. A brilliant start to this series which already has me asking and wondering…

WHAT HAPPENS NOW? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

I loved Graces character. She’s strong, determined and the boss. She is an amazing character after all she had to face and her relationship with Bastien (the lord of thorns) oooh. Loved them together. A couple that shouldn’t be… But are perfect together. True love. The ending left me speechless. Revenge. Lies. Truths. I really need to know what happens next… Major cliffhanger alert. Cue bookhangover.

Brilliantly written and gripping. Highly recommend. I lost myself into their world instead of mine which I enjoyed. A well deserved four stars from me. An upcoming series that could be huge!
