Lightbringer – Claire Legrand ★★★★

Blurb; In this epic finale to the Empirium Trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claire Legrand, two queens, separated by a thousand years must face their ultimate destinies.

Queen Rielle, pushed away from everything she loves, turns to Corien and his promises of glory. Meanwhile, whispers from the empirium slowly drive her mad, urging her to open the Gate. Separated from Audric and Ludivine, she embraces the role of Blood Queen and her place by Corien’s side, determined to become the monster the world believes her to be.

In the future, Eliana arrives in the Empire’s capital as a broken shell of herself. Betrayed and abandoned, she fights to keep her power at bay—and away from Corien, who will stop at nothing to travel back in time to Rielle, even if that means destroying her daughter.

But when the mysterious Prophet reveals themselves at last, everything changes, giving Rielle and Eliana a second chance for salvation—or the destruction their world has been dreading.

My Review; The final book of The Empirium trilogy. Now its been a while since I finished book two so I won’t lie it took me a while to remember the ending of book two, familiarise myself with the characters etc. But after that I was back in and hooked. This was a buddy read with Jacqueline from Pufflekitteh.

The story is told through each of the characters and there is plenty going on to keep the reader hooked. Brilliantly written, I was lost in this fantasy world for a while and I loved it. I really felt for Audric though he just wanted Rielle back from the start and I felt that.

A brilliant ending to the trilogy with a huge, explosive war towards the end. Queen vs Queen. Which side will Rielle choose? It’s all down to her. A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend.

Sophia, Princess Among Beasts – James Patterson & Emily Raymond ★★★★★

Blurb; A princess who has lost her mother and father finds herself in a terrifying world that urgently needs a queen.

Sophia is smart, beautiful, and accomplished, a beloved princess devoted to the people and to reading books. The kingdom is hers, until she is plunged into a nightmarish realm populated by the awful beasts she read about as a child.

The beasts are real. And so is the great army marching on her castle. The people look to Sophia for protection. They will all perish unless she can unlock an ancient secret as profound as life and death itself.

Sophia, Princess Among Beasts is a fabulous adventure, and a stunning mystery. Here again is proof of why James Patterson is the world’s most trusted storyteller.

My Review; Another one from my library pile and one of my favourite authors. This was absolutely amazing. I really fell in love with this story. It set my imagination on fire and I was sucked into this fantasy world. The cover is also beautiful and eye catching so bonus points there.

The level of description within this story is amazing especially for all the mythical beasts and people. I loved Sophia’s character. She’s brave, strong, determined and not afraid. She’s a powerful character. I loved the whole adventure with her. I would describe it as a YA, fantasy and adventure. It’s brilliant.

I would highly recommend to you all. A well deserved five stars from me. I felt sad that it ended! This is going straight into my top twenty reads of the year, it’s going to be a hard one to forget! Amazing.

*BLOG TOUR* The Prisoner’s Wife – Maggie Brookes ★★★★

Blurb; Inspired by the true story of a daring deception that plunges a courageous young woman deep into the horrors of a Nazi POW camp to be with the man she loves.

In the dead of night, a Czech farm girl and a British soldier travel through the countryside. Izabela and prisoner of war Bill have secretly married and are on the run, with Izzy dressed as a man. The young husband and wife evade capture for as long as possible–until they are cornered by Nazi soldiers with tracking dogs.

Izzy’s disguise works. The couple are assumed to be escaped British soldiers and transported to a POW camp. However, their ordeal has just begun, as they face appalling living conditions and the constant fear of Izzy’s exposure. But in the midst of danger and deprivation comes hope, for the young couple are befriended by a small group of fellow prisoners. These men become their new family, willing to jeopardize their lives to save Izzy from being discovered and shot.

My Review; Wow. What a story! The whole time I was reading this I kept reminding myself that this actually happened. Scary. Amazing. Brave. This is a real love story right here. What would you do for love? It’s going to take a long time to ever forget about this story.

Imagine being a woman undercover in all those camps. Having to hide the most basic things including going mute, toilet, getting dressed, mother nature and much more. Finding out who you can trust to help and keep your secrets… The couple found some amazing friends to help them through it all. The poor woman must have been constantly frightened to death about being found out.

Highly recommend. An eye-opening, hard hitting and brutally honest read. A well deserved four stars from me.
