Undoctored – Adam Kay ★★★★

Blurb; Adam Kay’s secret diary from his time as a junior doctor This is Going to Hurt was the publishing phenomenon of the century. It has been read by millions, translated into 37 languages, and adapted into a major BBC television series. But that was only part of the story.

Now, Adam Kay returns and will once again have you in stitches in his painfully funny and startlingly powerful follow-up, Undoctored: The Story of a Medic Who Ran Out of Patients. In his most honest and incisive book yet, he reflects on what’s happened since hanging up his scrubs and examines a life inextricably bound up with medicine. Battered and bruised from his time on the NHS frontline, Kay looks back, moves forwards and opens up some old wounds.

Hilarious and heartbreaking, horrifying and humbling, Undoctored is the astonishing portrait of a life by one of Britain’s best-loved storytellers.

My Review; I have loved all of Adams previous books so ofcourse I had to read this, he is so honest, blunt and truthful in what he says and writes. This is a huge insight into Adams personal life and Employment life. Some very funny stories within and some alarming health scare ones. It’s also evident Adam isn’t a fan of going to hospitals himself even as a previous DR. I enjoyed every page. Highly recommend. A well deserved four stars from me.

My Review; This was amazing and it raises money for the NHS too so double win. It is a new release to tie in with the pandemic we have all and are currently experiencing. Inside contains 100 short stories from our favourite authors, celebs, musicians, chefs and comedians. These range from hilarious out of this world stories, heart breaking stories, deaths, births and honest everyday stories. We get a full range and all contain a thank you message within. There are also some beautiful poems within too. It really is a beautiful read put together by Adam Kay.

The thing that stood out to me and was mentioned a lot of time in this book is the amazement of the NHS staff and how it is all free. Just makes you go wow doesn’t it? The heart of the UK. The NHS. Highly recommend. A well deserved five stars from me I’d give more if I could and a huge thank you to everyone working in our NHS. Keep going soldiers.

Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas – Adam Kay ★★★★

Blurb; Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas is the hilarious, poignant and entertaining story of the life of a junior doctor at the most challenging time of the year. With twenty-five tales of intriguing, shocking and incredible Christmas incidents, the British public will finally appreciate the sacrifices made and the challenges faced by the unsung heroes of the NHS.

My Review; I absolutely loved This Is Going To Hurt so I was thrilled when I found out about this. It didn’t disappoint. It’s a short and snappy book that looks at Adams time working in the NHS over a number of Christmas’s. Ofcourse you’ve got the utterly wierd and hilarious incidents to laugh over and think what goes on in some peoples heads? Then you’ve got the harsh reality that it’s not all funny. Death and horrible things still happened over Christmas.

There was one part in the story which he warns you about and you have the option to skip, I didn’t and it broke my heart reading that part. As we all know the NHS never stops. Not even for Christmas! So this is a glimpse into the NHS at Christmas. We should all consider those working for the NHS over Christmas while we spending Christmas at home with our families. They’re the hereos.

Brilliantly written. Truthful and honest. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.
