Cuckoo – Sophie Draper ★★★★

Blurb; There’s a stranger in your house…

When her stepmother dies unexpectedly, Caro returns to her childhood home in Derbyshire. She hadn’t seen Elizabeth in years, but the remote farmhouse offers refuge from a bad relationship, and a chance to start again.

But going through Elizabeth’s belongings unearths memories Caro would rather stay buried. In particular, the story her stepmother would tell her, about two little girls and the terrible thing they do.

As heavy snow traps Caro in the village, where her neighbours stare and whisper, Caro is forced to question why Elizabeth hated her so much, and what she was hiding. But does she really want to uncover the truth?

My Review; Throughally enjoyed this one. Very interesting and intriguing story. Lots of spooky incidents going on throughout the story as Caro returns to her old home after her step mother passed away. But there are way too many secrets she has to uncover and face.

Towards the end this story really speeds up with plenty of jaw dropping moments and outcomes. It was a bit of a slow burner at the start, getting you a feeling of the characters, the past and the setting. Poor Caro for what she went through back in her past and what she has to cope with in the present.

A really good story. Spooky. Keeps the reader on the edge of their seat to see where it goes and what happens. A beautiful eye catching cover too. Didn’t like Caros sister at all from the beginning. A well written story. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

The Fear – C.L. Taylor ★★★★★

Now 32, Lou discovers that he is involved with teenager Chloe Meadows. Determined to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself, she returns home to confront him for the damage he’s caused.

My Review; WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. No seriously. This has to be one of the most anticipated books of 2018 and it is bloody brilliant! A must read. A must buy. Easily going to make my top 20 of 2018. This has to be the best book Cally has written yet. It is seriously soooo good, I cannot stress that enough.

I need a word thats more than brilliant, amazing, thrilling, gripping and hooked. I loved it! Outstanding. The Fear will get your heart racing and your jaw dropping. Very impressed. I throughly enjoyed devouring this book. It is a fast paced thriller which will have you on the edge of your seat throughout, you won’t want to put it down.

I must say that this book is about child grooming and could be considered a tough read for some readers but, it is an issue that does happen still today and needs to be highlighted more than it currently is. But wow. The ending of this book just makes the whole story that little bit more darker. Brilliant. A well deserved five stars from me, I would highly recommend you all go pre order quick! You will not be disappointed. I will not forget this story in a rush… Wow.

The Fear will be released 22nd of March 2018. A must read.

Bad Sister – Sam Carrington ★★★★★

Blurb;

Then: When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price.

Now: Psychologist Connie Summers wants to help Stephanie rebuild her life. She has a new name, a young son and everything to live for. But when Stephanie receives a letter from someone she’d hoped would never find her, Connie is forced to question what really happened that night. But some truths are better left alone . . .

My Review; WOW! WOW! WOW! When I read Sam Carringtons debut Saving Sophie I loved it and was waiting for more by her, so this was a must read and boy I was not disappointed. Bloody brilliant! Just what I needed to start off my year of books.

Bad Sister had me hooked from the prologue and I could not put this book down, I finished it within 24 hours. Could easily be devoured within one sitting. I absolutely loved reading this story, what a brilliant plot and ending. A true shocker! A jaw dropper. The story flicks between chapters told through Connie’s character, an unknown narrator and DI Wade who I thought was a very good detective. Cleverly written and told story.

I would highly recommend to you all. A well deserved five stars. I cannot wait to read more by Sam and have high expections after her first two brilliant, fast paced stories. Bad Sister is written well, easy to read and contains short chapters throughout. A story that you won’t be able to forget in a hurry. Fantastic. Very impressed. Sad to have finished it so quickly. Whose character do you believe?
