*BLOG BLITZ* Spare Room – Dreda Say Mitchell ★★★★★

Blurb; Home Is Where The Nightmare Is

Beautiful double room to let to single person

Lisa, a troubled young woman with a past, can’t believe her luck when she finds a beautiful room to rent in a large house. The live-in owners are a kind and welcoming couple. Everything is fine until she finds a suicide note hidden in her room. But when the couple insist this man didn’t exist and that Lisa is their first tenant, Lisa begins to doubt herself.

Compelled to undercover the secrets of the man who lived in the room before her, Lisa is alarmed when increasingly disturbing incidents start to happen. Someone doesn’t want Lisa to find out the truth.

As the four walls of this house and its secrets begin to close in on Lisa, she descends into a hellish hall of mirrors where she’s not sure what’s real and what’s not as she claws her way towards the truth…

Did this room already claim one victim?
Is it about to take another?

My Review; Where do I begin? … Bare with me here. Spare Room is a rollercoaster of a read, it totally messed with my mind! This book actually blew me away… Wow.

Everyone has their secrets in this story… But the truth will shock you. Not everything is as it seems… I did not expect anything that got thrown at me during this read. Chilling, dark and creepy.

Main Character Lisa is facing her own personal issues throughout, but I actually felt scared, sorry and fightened for her. Half way through this book is a major PLOT TWIST that actually had me holding my breathe and screaming WHAT! WOAH! EXPLAIN!!!

Ex boyfriend Alex is the perfect gentleman throughout, he’s friendly, caring and I just loved his character. Jack and Martha, now this had me changing my mind about their characters all the way through. Are they a nasty, evil couple? Or just a normal happy couple who Lisa has misjudged wrongly.

With all that went on in this book I devoured it in two days. This is the first book I have read by Dreda Say Mitchell and it wont be my last, very impressed. With an explosive, in your face ending like that you can cue me having a lie down and book hangover after this…

I think it’s only fair to award a five star rating and a place in my top twenty reads of 2019 ALREADY. I know. Shocking. Highly recommend. You will not regret reading this one.

Blurb; Star investigative reporter Ralph Buchanan’s glory days are behind him. His newspaper has banished him to Pakistan, not knowing the greatest moment of his long career is waiting for him there.

When Simone Jasnin asks him to help expose a grave injustice, he finds himself embroiled in a harrowng tale that began in a dusty settlement in rural Punjab, setting in motion a chain of events that will change the lives of everyone involved.

Seven years later in the city of Lahore, members of a prominent family are being brutally murdered, one by one. The only clue is a hand-carved wooden bangle left at the scene of each crime.

As the list of suspects grows and the tension mounts, Ralph realises the answers might be closer to home than he ever thought possible.

Solving the mystery will put him back on top but at what cost?

Only when the smoke clears will the killing stop and honour be satisfied…

My Review; After reading previous books by Owen this was a must read for me, he never disappoints me. I devoured this in a day and throughally enjoyed it even though some subjects are deep within. A page turner of a read which kept me intrigued and hooked throughout.

Brilliantly written. A story you lose yourself into and learn from, well I did. A different setting and atmosphere with this story compared to his previous stories but it was great, set in Pubjab. There are some dark and disturbing scenes in this book. Owen has tackeld some deep, real, touching and heartbreaking situations and sights in this book. A well deserved four stars from me and highly recommend. I look forward to more by Owen in the future.

Blurb; Darkness lies within…

When Gillian meets Paul and Daniel she starts to become the person she always knew she was. And as people around her start dying Gillian faces scrutiny from her mother.

But are the deaths accidents or is something more sinister at work?

My Review; Happy Publication Day. I love this cover. If this opening of a letter by the narrator does not draw the reader in I don’t know what will. It had me gripped and intrigued.

A fast paced read which had me judging and analysing Gillians character throughout. Parts are quite dark and stomach turning… But she didn’t expect to meet a mysterious stranger Daniel! Wierd, spooky, scary and twisted. I devoured this story within a day. Brilliantly written. A story that you can’t forget. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.
