*BLOG BLITZ* Spare Room – Dreda Say Mitchell ★★★★★

Blurb; Home Is Where The Nightmare Is

Beautiful double room to let to single person

Lisa, a troubled young woman with a past, can’t believe her luck when she finds a beautiful room to rent in a large house. The live-in owners are a kind and welcoming couple. Everything is fine until she finds a suicide note hidden in her room. But when the couple insist this man didn’t exist and that Lisa is their first tenant, Lisa begins to doubt herself.

Compelled to undercover the secrets of the man who lived in the room before her, Lisa is alarmed when increasingly disturbing incidents start to happen. Someone doesn’t want Lisa to find out the truth.

As the four walls of this house and its secrets begin to close in on Lisa, she descends into a hellish hall of mirrors where she’s not sure what’s real and what’s not as she claws her way towards the truth…

Did this room already claim one victim?
Is it about to take another?

My Review; Where do I begin? … Bare with me here. Spare Room is a rollercoaster of a read, it totally messed with my mind! This book actually blew me away… Wow.

Everyone has their secrets in this story… But the truth will shock you. Not everything is as it seems… I did not expect anything that got thrown at me during this read. Chilling, dark and creepy.

Main Character Lisa is facing her own personal issues throughout, but I actually felt scared, sorry and fightened for her. Half way through this book is a major PLOT TWIST that actually had me holding my breathe and screaming WHAT! WOAH! EXPLAIN!!!

Ex boyfriend Alex is the perfect gentleman throughout, he’s friendly, caring and I just loved his character. Jack and Martha, now this had me changing my mind about their characters all the way through. Are they a nasty, evil couple? Or just a normal happy couple who Lisa has misjudged wrongly.

With all that went on in this book I devoured it in two days. This is the first book I have read by Dreda Say Mitchell and it wont be my last, very impressed. With an explosive, in your face ending like that you can cue me having a lie down and book hangover after this…

I think it’s only fair to award a five star rating and a place in my top twenty reads of 2019 ALREADY. I know. Shocking. Highly recommend. You will not regret reading this one.

*BLOG TOUR* Only A Mother – Elisabeth Carpenter ★★★★★

Blurb; ONLY A MOTHER . . .

Erica Wright hasn’t needed to scrub ‘MURDERER’ off her house in over a year. Life is almost quiet again. Then her son, Craig, is released from prison, and she knows the quiet is going to be broken.

Erica has always believed Craig was innocent – despite the lies she told for him years ago – but when he arrives home, she notices the changes in him. She doesn’t recognise her son anymore.

So, when another girl goes missing, she starts to question everything. But how can a mother turn her back on her son? And, if she won’t, then how far will she go to protect him?

My Review; Oh My Days. This was a rollercoaster of a read. Absolutely loved it. Brilliant. Highly recommend. A well deserved five stars from me.

Brilliantly written, contains short chapters and fast paced. This was my last read for 2018 and it blew me away. I was well and truelly glued to this book. I think it would make a brilliant film. Just when you think you know all the characters and personalities… BOOM. NO. Flip that upside down… Very impressed.

I absolutely loved Ericas character. All her faith and trust she put into her son being not guilty. Everything she went through and faced for her son and to keep their home. I admire her. However, there are some nasty and bretraying characters in this book! Luke is a lovely character going above and beyond in his job and has a love for his family, loved his character too.

A must read from me. An author to keep your eye out for. I cannot wait to read more by this author in the future. Absolutely lost myself in this book.

*BLOG TOUR* Attend – West Camel ★★★★★

Blurb; When Sam falls in love with Deptford thug Derek, and Anne’s best friend Kathleen takes her own life, they discover they are linked not just by a world of drugs and revenge; they also share the friendship of the uncanny and enigmatic Deborah. Seamstress, sailor, storyteller and self-proclaimed centenarian immortal, Deborah slowly reveals to Anne and Sam her improbable, fantastical life, a history of hidden Deptford and ultimately the solution to their crises.

My Review; There is just something about this book I loved. It is a strong contender for my final place in my top twenty of 2018. The story is told through three main characters all loveable in their own way, Sam, Anne and Deborah. This story was not what I expected at all but brilliant.

It is a brilliant, easy to read story which contains short chapters. It’s bound to keep the reader hooked throughout, a real page turner… Well it was for me. Throughally enjoyed it. I was right beside each of the characters throughout. I loved the stories Deborah had to tell, interesting. Different. Not what I expected at all… But loved it.

Highly recommend. A well deserved five stars from me.
