Sharp Objects – Gillian Flynn ✶✶✶✶

sharp objects

From the bestselling author of Gone Girl Gillian Flynn presents sharp objects… Camille Preaker is a reporter in Chicago and has been sent to investigate the disappearance of two little girls within her hometown (Wind Gap). Camille finds herself back at home with her distant mother and thirteen year old half sister Amma who she barely knows, this family is still haunted by a family tragedy of their own. While investigating this new horror clues begin to turn into dead ends and Camille realises that she will have to unravel the tragedy of the past if she is to survive this homecoming…

I awarded Sharp Objects four stars as it is a gripping page turner to devour, but for me personally it was not as good as Gone Girl. I did enjoy this story but found the ending the best part where everything is revealed and very unexpected! However, this book did keep me guessing throughout and parts I found disturbing. This has to be the second best book Gillian has written so far (I haven’t had chance to read Dark Places yet). It is a fast paced, easy to read and well written clever thriller to enjoy. This is the perfect story for readers who enjoy mystery, thriller, crime, suspense, horror and contemporary. Do you want to find out what happened to those two innocent little girls? Dive in to find out! Enjoy.

The Grownup – Gillian Flynn ✶✶✶

the grownup review

From the bestselling author of Gone Girl Gillian Flynn presents her next short story… A young woman is making a decent wage by faking it as a psychic with some illegal sex work on the side, she tells people what they want to hear that is until Susan Burke comes along. Susan moved to the area one year ago with her husband and stepson Miles, and they moved into a Victorian house called Canterhook Manor. Susan has become convinced that some spirit is haunting their home and family. When the young woman enters Susan’s house for the first time she can feel it too, watching her, waiting, biding it’s time…

Now, I absolutely loved Gone Girl so I thought I would read all her other books too. First I was shocked at how thin the book was and how short the story is (67 pages). This has to be the shortest story I have ever read and I was disappointed (note the three stars). When I started reading this I thought it was really wierd but then the story kicked in which was a good story, but then it was over! It took me just forty minutes to read it all! It is extremely easy to read and fast paced but I feel this could have been made into a really gripping story if Gillian had written more instead of stopping short. However, I will still continue to read her other books I just hope they are better than this. This is the ideal story for readers who enjoy horror, mystery, thriller, suspense and short story genre’s. Enjoy.

gone girl

Now I guess you have heard about this book as there was and still is a big debate about Gone Girl, you either love it or hate it and I loved it! Gone Girl definitely gained a lot of media coverage especially as it has been adapted to a film since. I have seen both the film and read the book and both were brilliant! It is no wonder Gone Girl is a global bestseller book with many twists and turns that are bound to keep you reading until the end. For my personal review Gone Girl deserves the five stars I have awarded as it kept me glued to the story and is full of suspense and mystery, alongside it being an excellent thriller that will keep you up reading all night. This is the first book I have read by Gillian Flynn and I have already put a selection of her others onto my wishlist already. Let me know what your views are on this book below, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Under pressure from friends, family, the police and media will Nick be able to contain all his hidden lies, secrets and deceits? Did Nick kill his wife or is there more hidden beneath the depths of the story? Will Amy ever be found?
