*BLOG TOUR* Blood Song – Johana Gustawsson ★★★★

Blurb; The action swings from London to Sweden, and then back into the past, to Franco’s Spain, as Roy & Castells hunt a monstrous killer … in the lastest instalment of Johana Gustawsson’s award-winning series

Spain, 1938: The country is wracked by civil war, and as Valencia falls to Franco’s brutal dictatorship, Republican Therese witnesses the murders of her family. Captured and sent to the notorious Las Ventas women’s prison, Therese gives birth to a daughter who is forcibly taken from her.

Falkenberg, Sweden, 2016: A wealthy family is found savagely murdered in their luxurious home. Discovering that her parents have been slaughtered, Aliénor Lindbergh, a new recruit to the UK’s Scotland Yard, rushes back to Sweden and finds her hometown rocked by the massacre.

Profiler Emily Roy joins forces with Aliénor and soon finds herself on the trail of a monstrous and prolific killer. Little does she realise that this killer is about to change the life of her colleague, true-crime writer Alexis Castells. Joining forces once again, Roy and Castells’ investigation takes them from the Swedish fertility clinics of the present day back to the terror of Franco’s rule, and the horrifying events that took place in Spanish orphanages under its rule.

My Review; Blood Song is book three in the Emily Roy and Alexis Castells series and yet again I’ve come into a series LATE! Ahhh. Nevertheless, it read perfectly fine as a standalone and now I need and want to go back to the previous books, yes I already have them.

Beautifully translated by David Warriner. What a brilliant story! The story flicks from between Spain 1938 to Sweden 2016 but each part is clearly stated at the beginning of each chapter. I found the Spain 1938 parts absolutely heartbreaking, upsetting and dark. They really got to me. The 2016 parts are an indepth investigation into in the deaths of a family… But what links these different times and stories together? You’ll have to read to find out!

Thrilling, clever, bold, brave, emotional and edge of your seat reading. There’s not enough words to describe this story. Johana has a unique writing skill in how she has told this story and I loved it. One that will be hard to forget. Some of these characters are going to haunt me forever.

A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to go back and see what the rest of this series has in store for me.

Orenda Roadshow

Manchester Orenda Roadshow 05.03.2019 round up.

WOW! What a brilliant night. This was my first book event (ever) and it was the best. Every single author and Karen is so welcoming, friendly and funny. I was nervous and excited beyond belief but I think I managed to keep it pretty cool until Karen asked “Are you okay?” Haha. Fab thanks.

Lovely Orenda publisher Karen

So I arrived a little early had a browse of my sweet shop aka Waterstones (3 floors) was terrible and bought 3 non orenda books before the event even started! Oh dear. Then I popped for a coffee before the event… Low and behold who do I see approaching? Kjell Ola Dahl, Thomas Enger and Antti Tuomainen. Ofcourse I tried to play it cool… Waved and said hi!

Seen as we wasnt allowed into the event room aka storage room I soon found myself having coffee surrounded by the orenda lot! Dream come true right? Ofcourse!

The Event you ask? Oh we was in for a treat! However, I need to mention poor David. F. Ross came down with food poisoning so was unable to attend (don’t worry I still bought your book, infact I GOT THEM ALL). We started off with an introduction to each author, then was treated to a reading from each of their books with some laughs along the way. Some books I could have sat and listened to all night. A truely wonderful event, enjoyed by all.

I finally got to meet some fellow book bloggers who were absolutely lovely so a shout out to Joanne Robertson (Mychestnutreadingtree) and Jill from (Jillsbookcafe). Both lovely ladies.

I enjoyed myself and came away on such a high. So thank you to all the lovely authors of Orenda and the brilliant Karen for coming to Manchester. I am one happy book worm and book blogger managing to get ALL my books signed! Thank you. Until we meet again. Sorry for so much of my face! … Author stalking.
