The Cousins – Karen. M. McManus ★★★★

Blurb; Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised… and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family’s past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

My Review; Ever since I read this authors first book One Of Us Is Lying I have followed all her books barr 1 so far and know I am in for a treat. I have loved them all and this did not disappoint either. It is a cleverly written young adult story with some evil, manipulative and dangerous characters.

I was hooked. The story focuses on three cousins Milly, Jonah and Aubrey and how their family have many hidden secrets spanning years back whilst also including there own secrets now. Took me a while to understand it all and figure it out alongside the other three characters above but we got there. AND BOY I DID NOT EXPECT THAT OUTCOME! Wow.

Karen sure knows how to get her readers gripped! It’s a real page turner and I loved it. Loved the island it was set on and the main three cousins working together. A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend.

Two Can Keep A Secret – Karen M. McManus ★★★★

Blurb; Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone’s declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she’s in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous–and most people aren’t good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it’s safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

My Review; After reading and loving One Of Us Is Lying, this was a must read for me and it was just as good as its previous book! An easy read, fast paced and a page turner of a read. I really enjoyed it.

It is a very clever, brilliantly written story especially towards the end when all is revealed and all the clues come together from the current case and the previous case. There is a lot more to this story than just the one story line, we get to see each characters lives and unravellings which all add up towards the end. It is a small town after all.

Full of mystery and suspense the town is on edge. I absolutely loved Ellerys character she put herself into detective mode to find answers, she was good and spot on a lot of the time! Impressive. A nice wrap up of the case and a happy ending for all.

I highly recommend this story especially if you enjoyed One Of Us Is Lying. I awarded a well deserved four stars.

One Of Us Is Lying – Karen M. McManus ★★★★

Blurb; Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

My Review; I’ve heard good things about this book so I finally got around to reading it. I throughally enjoyed it. A perfect young adult mystery. Four suspects all with their own secrets. The book is told through each of the four characters. Each had a reason they could have killed Simon… But so did a lot of other students.

A very clever story. Didn’t expect the outcome at all. A great story. I found it an easy, fast paced read. A page turner. I loved the ending! I think this would make a brilliant series or film. I kept suspecting each person but was then like no. Wrong. I don’t want to give much away but it will take you back to your high school, teenage and drama days. The perfect break from reality.

A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend. I look forward to reading the next book that follows on from this (Two Can Keep A Secret).
