Review of book ONE in the series; What a brilliant start to this series. This is a series of eight short reads. I have previously read book three and eight before as I obviously cannot read a series in order it was lovely to start from the beginning. The story focuses on main character Maisie who’s dream is to become a writer but her dream soon falls short when she cannot find a sponsor to read through her work to enter a grant/competition to become published. She finds her on an adventure to a hotel in Cornwall to find a sponsor but along the way she bumps into her ex. Not all doom and gloom though as she also bumps into a kind, handsome stranger Sydney. Loved his character. After a wobble she decided to return home but something tells her to stay and not give up on her dream. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for this series and read it in order. An easy, short and fast paced read. Really enjoyed it all… The characters, the setting and the storyline. I really hope Maisie achieves her dream and maybe something with Sydney. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

*BLOG TOUR* The Cornish Key to Happiness – Laura Briggs ★★★★

Blurb; Past secrets return to complicate Maisie’s future with the charming Sidney Daniels in the final installment of the Cornish romance series.
Picking up where book seven left off, Maisie’s plans to celebrate her book’s thrilling news remain on hold after Sidney has vanished from Port Hewer overnight, following a brush with his secret past. His departure leaves Maisie with a head full of questions and a heart torn in two, made even worse by the rumors flying about him through the town. Where and why has he gone? Will he ever come back again? And—foremost in Maisie’s mind—was the heartache from his younger days somehow to blame for his sudden and mysterious flight?
But when Dean convinces her that Sidney may be facing a choice that could ruin his life, Maisie must set out to find him, once again leaving behind the Cornish seaside haven of Port Hewer she’s come to think of as home, and leaving behind the answer to a secret she’s been longing to know since the beginning. Not knowing when or if she’ll return, she’s taking the biggest risk with her heart so far…and the truth she discovers waiting for her at the end of her journey will make her wonder if things can ever possibly be the same as they were before.
Questions are answered, secrets are spilled, and the biggest reveal of the series is finally unveiled as A LITTLE HOTEL IN CORNWALL reaches its exciting conclusion.

My Review; Well ain’t I an idiot huh? This is book eight in a little hotel in Cornwall series and I have not read any books before this one. D’oh! Stupid me eh. Didn’t really work for me as a standalone as I came into this series extremely late.

Also there was no chapters at all! It’s one continuous long story from start to finish, would have been better for me with chapters added. I understood the story but it was mostly set in one location a huge mansion… The ending was nice though. We all love a good ending right?

Sidney/Alex is torn into two between his past life, family and secrets and the future and life he wants to live. Maisie just wants to make sure he does what he thinks is best and make sure he happy. I liked her character. An easy, shortish read. Four stars from me. A good read.

*BLOG TOUR* Sea Holly & Mistletoe Kisses – Laura Briggs ★★★★

Blurb; Christmas is coming to Port Hewer and the hotel Penmarrow, where Maisie is suffering a case of the holiday blues far from home this year — until Gavin, a young American businessman staying at the hotel through Christmas, talks her into joining him as his partner in the hotel’s ice sculpting competition in a mutual pact to enjoy the holidays to the fullest.

Meanwhile, Maisie experiences the village Christmas season vicariously through Sidney, and continues writing her Poe-inspired story with only Sidney aware of her secret novel. She soon learns, however, that criticism and praise go hand in hand when he takes issue with her latest chapters, which puts pressure on their friendship, too.

But is that what’s really the issue between them? Because handsome Gavin has more than ice sculpting in mind when it comes to Maisie’s time, which comes as a surprise to no one who’s seen them together. As Maisie faces this sudden romantic dilemma, she realizes what she wants most in her life … and faces a question of what her heart wants most, too.

My Review; It appears this is book three in A Little Hotel in Cornwall series, which I didn’t know. However, it read perfectly fine as a standalone. It is a short read at just under 200 pages. Set in a hotel in Cornwall. You get a good background of the main character Maisie so I don’t have a clue what happened in book one or two, I will have to go back and read these.

A beautiful setting for the story and a brilliant time of year AKA Christmas! Could romance be on the books for Maisie this year? It sure is possible. Brilliantly written however, there is no chapters at all in this book, just one long story which is hard to find places to stop. I also learnt a lot from this book about Ice sculpturing. Different.

An easy, different festive read for 2019! A well deserved four stars from me.
