Six Stories – Matt Wesolowski ★★★★

Blurb; 1997. Scarclaw Fell. The body of teenager Tom Jeffries is found at an Outward Bound center. Verdict? Misadventure. But not everyone is convinced. And the truth of what happened in the beautiful but eerie fell is locked in the memories of the tight-knit group of friends who embarked on that fateful trip, and the flimsy testimony of those living nearby. 2017. Enter elusive investigative journalist Scott King, whose podcast examinations of complicated cases have rivaled the success of Serial, with his concealed identity making him a cult internet figure. In a series of six interviews, King attempts to work out how the dynamics of a group of idle teenagers conspired with the sinister legends surrounding the fell to result in Jeffries’ mysterious death. As every interview unveils a new revelation, you’ll be forced to work out for yourself how Tom Jeffries died, and who is telling the truth.

My Review; I have to admit I came into this series at book two and even admitted that to Matt himself. I got his forgiveness. I have now gone back to where the Six Stories series started and boy was it brilliant, the whole series is. It’s a series that just gets better and better. I love them all.

Six Stories follows the death of a boy while away with a group. But what really happened that night? We get different stories and points of views to piece it all together from those that were there. However I must say in this story we actually get an answer whereas in the rest of the series it’s left for the reader to decide for themselves. Brilliantly written. Gripping. Thrilling. Chilling outcome. Brilliant. Matt hasnt disappointed me yet.

A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

Beast – Matt Wesolowski ★★★★★

Blurb; Elusive online journalist Scott King examines the chilling case of a young vlogger found frozen to death in the legendary local ‘vampire tower’, in another explosive episode of Six Stories…

In the wake of the ‘Beast from the East’ cold snap that ravaged the UK in 2018, a grisly discovery was made in a ruin on the Northumbrian coast. Twenty-four-year-old vlogger, Elizabeth Barton, had been barricaded inside what locals refer to as ‘The Vampire Tower’, where she was later found frozen to death.

Three young men, part of an alleged ‘cult’, were convicted of this terrible crime, which they described as a ‘prank gone wrong’. However, in the small town of Ergarth, questions have been raised about the nature of Elizabeth Barton’s death and whether the three convicted youths were even responsible.

Elusive online journalist Scott King speaks to six witnesses – people who knew both the victim and the three killers – to peer beneath the surface of the case. He uncovers whispers of a shocking online craze that held the young of Ergarth in its thrall and drove them to escalate a series of pranks in the name of internet fame. He hears of an abattoir on the edge of town, which held more than simple slaughter behind its walls, the tragic and chilling legend of the ‘Ergarth Vampire’…

My Review; I have been waiting for so long for this book I just couldn’t wait to read it and had to sneak it in before the end of the year. Boy I was not disappointed. Kept me up late into the night reading it. I am absolutely loving this series, it just gets better and better doesn’t it? Very happy. Very impressed. The perfect book to end the year on.

As usual brilliantly written, gripping, thrilling and chilling. A real page turner. I was hooked. I needed to know the answers as much as Scott. The outcome I could not see coming at all, a true shocker. Unexpected. Truelly. Shocking. A brilliant look back into the death of Elizabeth Barton. We get a glimpse into all sides of this character and some ain’t pretty. As they say not as they appear or seem.

A well deserved five stars from me and another late one slipping into my top twenty of the year. Cannot recommend this enough. I could say so much more but know a lot of my followers plan to read this or are currently reading it. Enjoy.

So when’s the next one coming Matt? 😂🤞 I think I may have a long wait…

Orenda Roadshow

Manchester Orenda Roadshow 05.03.2019 round up.

WOW! What a brilliant night. This was my first book event (ever) and it was the best. Every single author and Karen is so welcoming, friendly and funny. I was nervous and excited beyond belief but I think I managed to keep it pretty cool until Karen asked “Are you okay?” Haha. Fab thanks.

Lovely Orenda publisher Karen

So I arrived a little early had a browse of my sweet shop aka Waterstones (3 floors) was terrible and bought 3 non orenda books before the event even started! Oh dear. Then I popped for a coffee before the event… Low and behold who do I see approaching? Kjell Ola Dahl, Thomas Enger and Antti Tuomainen. Ofcourse I tried to play it cool… Waved and said hi!

Seen as we wasnt allowed into the event room aka storage room I soon found myself having coffee surrounded by the orenda lot! Dream come true right? Ofcourse!

The Event you ask? Oh we was in for a treat! However, I need to mention poor David. F. Ross came down with food poisoning so was unable to attend (don’t worry I still bought your book, infact I GOT THEM ALL). We started off with an introduction to each author, then was treated to a reading from each of their books with some laughs along the way. Some books I could have sat and listened to all night. A truely wonderful event, enjoyed by all.

I finally got to meet some fellow book bloggers who were absolutely lovely so a shout out to Joanne Robertson (Mychestnutreadingtree) and Jill from (Jillsbookcafe). Both lovely ladies.

I enjoyed myself and came away on such a high. So thank you to all the lovely authors of Orenda and the brilliant Karen for coming to Manchester. I am one happy book worm and book blogger managing to get ALL my books signed! Thank you. Until we meet again. Sorry for so much of my face! … Author stalking.
