Three Hours – Rosamund Lupton ★★★★

Blurb; Three hours is 180 minutes or 10,800 seconds.

It is a morning’s lessons, a dress rehearsal of Macbeth, a snowy trek through the woods.

It is an eternity waiting for news. Or a countdown to something terrible.

It is 180 minutes to discover who you will die for and what men will kill for.

In rural Somerset in the middle of a blizzard, the unthinkable happens: a school is under siege. Told from the point of view of the people at the heart of it, from the wounded headmaster in the library, unable to help his trapped pupils and staff, to teenage Hannah in love for the first time, to the parents gathering desperate for news, to the 16 year old Syrian refugee trying to rescue his little brother, to the police psychologist who must identify the gunmen, to the students taking refuge in the school theatre, all experience the most intense hours of their lives, where evil and terror are met by courage, love and redemption.

My Review; This was one off my library pile, highly recommended by fellow readers and my first buddy read of the year with Mel from Melanie’s reads (link to her blog below the review). What a book! It’s a hard one to review…

It is about a school shooting and for a change it’s not in the US, it’s in the UK! Putting myself into those childrens and teachers shoes was terrifying. The stuff of nightmares. Petrifying. Especially for Basi and Rafi. My heart broke over it all. Some people can be so cruel, twisted and sick.

This book had me gasping for breathe. My heart was pounding. I was scared for the characters, sat on the edge of my seat. Tense. Gripping. Thrilling. It’s one of those books that you’re so into you could hear a pin drop. You’re their with the characters every step. You just want to scream at the gunmen and tell the characters what to do.

Three hours makes you realise just how powerful time is. Whether it’s three hours. An hour. Or even 10 minutes. A lot can change your life in that time. It also gave the message that love prevails all and I totally agree with that. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

As a buddy read why don’t you pop over to Mels blog and see her thoughts on Three Hours?

Afterwards – Rosamund Lupton ✶✶✶✶

afterwards rosamund lupton

Afterwards is a must read if you have read Sister by Rosamund Lupton! The school is on fire and they are in there, they are! One mother (Grace) see’s the smoke and knows her daughter Jenny is inside, without question Grace runs into the school to rescue Jenny. But is Jenny the only one left in the school? Or are more people stuck in the school fire? After the fire Grace makes it her mission to find and identify the arsonist and protect her children from the person who is still trying to destroy them all. Will Grace succeed? Or will the arsonist win? That is for you to find out if you decide to read this book.

I awarded Afterwards four stars as I found the plot was very similar to that she had written in Sister! This book did now wow me away either like Sister did however, I did find it a good read. Afterwards is a book I still enjoyed and will not forget. This is another brilliantly written, easy to read, fast paced story with many twists and turns for you to endure. This would make the perfect read for readers who enjoy mystery’s, thriller’s, crime and suspense. I would recommend it to you all but do not expect anything outstanding, to me personally it was just another good story to keep me going. This has not put me off reading any of her other books, but personally I found Sister was better.

This is the first book I have read by Rosamund Lupton and let me tell you it made an impact on me. I read this book a while ago and I still remember all the story to this day. Sister is an excellently written thrilling story that will capture your attention. Sister is an easy to read, fast paced psychological thriller which I managed to finished in two days. Sister caught my attention just from the beautiful front cover, this story will keep you hooked throughout until all is revealed towards the end. Sister personally deserves the five stars I have awarded as I really did enjoy the full story. After reading Sister i found another book by Rosamund Lupton called Afterwards which I sunk my teeth into straightaway (review to come). I would say Rosamund Lupton is close to becoming one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait to read her other book.
